Facial Paralysis Cases
A common type of child birth injury is Facial Paralysis. Facial Paralysis may occur during labor or birth when pressure is applied on the baby’s face, causing the facial nerve to be injured.
Facial Paralysis may also occur when forceps are used for delivering the baby. The injury is often seen when the baby cries because there is no movement on the side of the face with the injury and the eye cannot be closed. If the nerve was bruised, the paralysis usually improves in a few weeks. If the nerve was torn, surgery may be needed.
In Maryland, compensation for the injuries caused by medical negligence includes an award of both economic damages and non-economic damages.
